The government today informed the Jammu and Kashmir High Court that the vision document for the preservation of the Dal Lake was being prepared by the IIT-Roorkee and would be received by the J&K Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) soon.
In its status report, LAWDA has given details of 14 persons whose illegal constructions have been demolished by it. “LAWDA to file report of further action taken in accordance with law against these violators,” the High Court said in its directions today.
Meanwhile, the High Court today asked the management of Hotel Grand Palace to show cause as to why action shall not be taken against them for not complying with the court orders.
As observed in the court orders today, the hotel was earlier directed to replace its sewage treatment plant. A notice in this regard was issued to the hotel management by the State Pollution Control Board.
“Show cause as to why coercive action, including sealing of the hotel, will not be taken against,” a division bench of Justices Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Ali Mohammad Magrey said in its orders today.
The High Court is hearing a public interest litigation on the conservation of the Dal Lake.
In this regard, the Court has given the hotel management two weeks to submit their reply.
The HC also asked the amicus curie, ZA Shah, to attend and participate in all scheduled meetings of the monitoring committee on the Dal Lake so that the government was able to proceed further in the matter, more particularly for enacting the law for the preservation of the lake and other water bodies.
The bench, in its orders, also observed that the functioning of the monitoring committee had become standstill because of non-participation of advocate ZA Shah in the committee meetings.
